PADU for equity distribution

PM Anwar Ibrahim has just launched PADU database on 2nd of January 2024.PADU (Pangkalan Data Utama) is the most comprehensive database established by the government. It is created to assist fair distribution of subsidies. Currently 85% of Malaysians enjoy subsidies from the government. However, there has been a lot of leakages, manipulation and errors in distributing the subsidies.

"There must be determination and without compromise."Without Padu, there will be much leakage, otherwise, there is no reason why there are still groups of poor in the country," he said.

Malaysians are required to register at PADU website (www.padu.gov.my) to enjoy future benefits from the government. Malaysia spends RM80 billion in subsidies and it is not sustainable if leakages continue to occur.

PADU is created to ensure fairness and equity to be enjoyed by deserving parties. It is also a transformative step by using technology to encourage more transparency and accountability. PADU integrates information from various agencies to create a comprehensive and sophisticated database for the government to monitor its distribution of wealth.

PADU is expected to solve issues of subsidies enjoyed by non deserving parties such as foreigners or different income level recipients. It is expected that in the future users need to show their PADU ID to purchase subsidized items such as petrol and rice. The government agencies will also use the database in disbursing financial grants for businesses. PADU will serve as a centralized system to ensure subsidies are utilized to build a better Malaysia.

This is another step towards practicing good governance. Malaysia is comitted to transformative change towards digitalization and attaining sustainability.
